Remembering and Honoring Those Who Fought and Died for Our Freedoms

For us at Hill Vascular & Vein Center, this Memorial Day is an extraordinary one.  A year ago, our team didn’t exist, not even in our imaginations. COVID-19 was unheard of back then. Life is very different today with so many lives lost to the coronavirus, countless businesses shuttered, unemployment soaring, schools and universities closed, senior proms and graduations canceled, and the emotional distress of social distancing affecting us all, our usual routines tossed to the wind. 

What hasn’t changed is our need to be free. We might have to dig down deep to find it, but it’s there. We are not the 24 hour news cycle. We are not defined by those fighting for the headlines. We are much deeper and more meaningful than that. Our nation represents the very spirit of freedom, a beacon for hope. That’s what the world sees in America. The best part of us as a people.

We Americans are free to pursue our dreams. Through consistent, daily work we make our dreams become reality. Happiness is experiencing the joy and accepting some the heartache that comes with the journey, to do what our hearts are telling us, to be who we were born to be. We make the choice not to quit, to never give up on our dreams.

We have the privilege to pursue our dreams because of those who fought for our freedoms and gave their lives to protect what we, as a diverse nation of individuals, hold sacred. We have real opportunity in these United States. It’s not something we can take for granted. We must be vigilant, stand strong, protect our liberties, our pursuit of happiness AND protect our loved ones and our communities in the midst of this unprecedented pandemic. We believe it is possible, albeit a fine balance, which we must determine as a nation. 

For those who sacrificed their lives for us, we Americans remember them this Memorial Day. Collectively, we show them our love and our heartfelt gratitude. They inspire us to endure and overcome, until we emerge victorious with today’s challenges behind us, stronger than before, our freedoms and public health intact for future generations.
